Silverstream water quality passes inspection!

Writer: Silverstream VolunteersSilverstream Volunteers

Last Monday, the Waimakariri Cub Group visited to evaluate the health of the stream. These young scientists and leaders, looked at: algae growth, temperature, water clarity, vegetation, and searched for invertebrates in order to see what lives in the water.

Mayfly larvae, which only exist in pristine waters, were found. There was good clarity and low algal growth, with excellent cover and shading of the river. Ideal conditions for cooling off in the water, after the investigations were finished!
